Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

For individuals who find it a hobby to go out camping, hiking, or trekking in far away and isolated places where the traditional conveniences of living aren’t present, it is always a necessity to bring with them some survival gear. So the only question left for us to answer is what should be inside your survival kit.

1 – Knife

Going to camping without a knife as part of your outdoor survival gear with you is simply dumb. Mind you, a knife is not exclusively for cutting stuff in the kitchen as it also is a very crucial part of a survival gear. Well, the biggest reason why you must not go out there without arming yourself with a knife is because there are specific things it can do that no other outdoor survival gear can. The knife is the tool you need in order to cut rope, bandages, and clothing, prepare food, cut wood to build fire and build shelter, and many more.

2 – Cordage

There’s no denying that rope is an essential part of any type of DIY survival gear. The fact is it almost is impossible to survive out there in a remote place or in the wild if you don’t have a rope with you or if you don’t know how to make one. The rope plays a very important role in a survival situation as it is used for so many different purposes, including that of building emergency shelters, fixing things, lashing poles, making animal traps, fishing, climbing, and making splints for injuries.

3 – Hydration System

This one right here needs no explanation. One of the most important things you should know about survival is that an average person is able to last for several days without food as long as there is access to drinking water. Therefore, the failure to bring any kind of hydration system or water storage will decrease your chances of surviving out there. Know that not all water found outdoors is ideal for drinking.

4 – Signaling Device

Whenever you find yourself in a survival situation while camping in an isolated and remote area, one of your priorities is to find a way to make contact with other people. As the days go by without contact, you decrease your chances of being rescued. So as to be sure you have some aid in terms of establishing contact when you’re in a survival situation, always bring with you a signaling equipment. There are so many things you can bring with you like a whistle, flashlight, or any other thing that can produce light or sound of some kind. Any signaling equipment must be considered as an essential tactical survival gear that you can’t afford to forget bringing.

In the end, one article wouldn’t be enough to list all the other essential things you should be bringing if you really want to survive out there, regardless of how challenging and dire the survival scenario is.
